It Never Hurts to Have Silliness in Your Life

My daughter thinks I'm silly. She's right! I have a big silly bone in my body that I very seldom let come out. I think I will change that. Sometimes I get bogged down in the seriousness of life and forget that God gave me this life and I should live it to the fullest. Part of that is getting silly. I don't mean neglecting my responsibilites. That's stupidity. I mean just trying to see the little silly things in life and enjoy them. For those of you who didn't get my previous Squirrel post, that was a line from "Dances with Wolves" and it seemed pretty silly and appropriate for said Squirrel. It made me laugh. I hope after you said "Huh?" it made you laugh too.

I was driving my bus today when I saw an unfortunate squirrel. I say unfortunate because he was belly up in the middle of the road, his little front paws reaching for heaven. At that point a bizzare thought went through my mind. I could see in my minds' eye, his little squirrel wife back home with the kits and she's saying to them, "Now why don't he write!"

Cooking for My Family

This evening I came home from work and started dinner right away. I wanted to make three dishes that I saw demonstrated on Food Network's show Five Ingredient Fix. The premise of the show is that you can take just five ingredients and make a great dish. The host of the show is Claire Robinson and I like her. She kind of reminds me a little of Rachael Ray. Anyway, I made all three dishes from that episode. The first was Easy White Pizza. The ingredients were Garlic infused Olive Oil, store bought pizza dough, mozzerella cheese, ricotta cheese and fresh oregano. Here is a picture of the finished product. It looked great, but it wasn't good. It was very bland. If I made this again, I would put chicken, onions, mushrooms and a little bacon to jazz it up. Oh, and maybe some artichoke hearts.
The side dish was a romaine salad with some of the pizza dough cut into little pieces and fried in olive oil then tossed with parmesan cheese. The salad was dressed with lemon juice and olive oil. Again not great. Dessert was more pizza dough coated and rolled in sugar, then cut in 3" rounds and baked for 20 minutes. It made a nice little hockey puck to spread marscopone cheese, top with strawberries and a little balsamic vinigar reduction. It was the best part of the meal.

It wasn't a terrible meal, but it wasn't the best meal I've ever cooked or eaten. I think the 5 ingredient premise is good for people that are just learning to cook, but I think anyone that has been cooking for a while would see right away how to improve these recipes.
