It's been a long time coming!

 I'm writing now because I have something to share. Hubby and I  embarked on a life changing journey on January 1, 2016. In November of last year, my daughter, Kim, was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. (I got that diagnoses in January of 2014.)  My daughter is very proactive when she needs to be and quickly went on line trying to find something to help her cope with this disease. She googled Reversing Diabetes and a Facebook group popped up. She joined the group  and soon was telling me about the Low Carb/High Fat way of eating this group was  advocating. Like the good mother I am, I told her she was crazy and she  was going to ruin her health! She told me she was doing it whether I liked it or not. My darling hubby and I watched her journey all through December and couldn't believe the changes in her. Her weight dropped, she had  more  energy and felt great. By the end of December, my hubby and I decided to give it a try for 1 month. If  we  didn't have any results, we would go back to our old way of eating.

We joined the Reversing Diabetes group and right after Christmas we got all the flour, sugar and processed food out of our house. We filled our  pantry and fridge with coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, cream cheese, butter, eggs, heavy  whipping cream, vegetables and meat. We started eating LC/HF on January 1st. The first two weeks were pretty rough as we switched over from burning glucose for fuel, to burning fat for fuel and being in ketosis, but something was happening. We were losing our taste for sugar and it felt good. We also lost 15 lbs each in the first three weeks. We decided to keep going. We have been eating this way a little over 5 months now and hubby has lost 52 lbs. I've lost  43 lbs. I've had to clean my closet out twice to get rid of my big clothes. The best part though, is the  health benefits we have been reaping. I went to my doctor in April and I am no longer pre-diabetic. My total cholesterol  was 181 and my triglycerides dropped 80 points into the normal zone. I had been taking a Prilosec every day for 5 years  because of my acid reflux disease. One  month after we started this way of eating, I was off the medicine and I have no more acid reflux.
Hubby saw his doctor and his high blood pressure is coming down and he's doing terrific on his thyroid meds with no increase. Our doctors were shocked!

I just want to thank my daughter and the Reversing Diabetes Facebook group for showing us that we could make this lifestyle change and live a healthy and happy life!
